Mr Sheen’s chosen ‘Furnace to Flowers’ plan seeks to transform a 25-hectare corridor in Ebbw Vale that runs between The Works and Victoria Gardens, Festival Park, into a wildflower meadow, park and ‘secret garden’. They plan to demonstrate how post-industrial areas can provide a haven for many species of wildlife, as well as enjoyable spaces for people.
Both Cwmbran and Cardiff’s projects propose to introduce wildflower areas into urban environments.
Cwmbran’s Urban Buzz wants to tell, ‘the emotive story of how Cwmbran’s landscape has evolved from a rural landscape to industrial heartland.’ It will do this by recreating the corner of a meadow, with stone gate and wall, an ‘urban buzz flower tunnel’ mural, as well as planting wildflowers around the town’s centre.
Discover the Diff is looking to bring colour into the lives of Cardiff’s communities, by enlivening forgotten parts of the city with flowers and homes for wildlife. It is also seeking to plant five colourful gateways through which to welcome visitors. The project is looking to engage with the community by inviting volunteers to help bring the project to life.
